The Cleveland Cavaliers are riding as high as any other team in the NBA right now. After a tough three-point loss in Toronto to open the season, the Cavs have won six straight games, including two overtime victories over the Boston Celtics. Donovan Mitchell is an MVP candidate, and Darius Garland returned and led the way in the win Wednesday over the Celtics.

Garland’s return came just in time, as to continue the winning streak the Cavs will need to win on the road. Tonight they play in Detroit before traveling West for the California tour. They won’t be back home until November 13th.

Even with the California teams scuffling, it will be a difficult test for the Cavaliers. That makes tonight’s matchup with the Pistons key to getting the trip off to a good start.

Cavs injury report

Darius Garland (questionable, knee); Donovan Mitchell (questionable, ankle); Raul Neto (questionable, ankle); Dylan Windler (out, ankle); Ricky Rubio (out indefinitely, knee)

The Cavs finally had their starting lineup back together against Boston on Wednesday, but both Garland and Mitchell suffered injuries during the victory that could linger. Losing one or both of their star guards would put a serious bind on their offense with Rubio out and Raul Neto questionable as well.

Betting odds, spread, over/under

The line for the game in Detroit tonight is likely to move as injury updates come out, but right now the Cavaliers are favored by 6.5 points over the Pistons according to Fanduel Sportsbook. The point total is set to 222.5. If these numbers update during the day we will update it here.

Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup tonight

Cavs: Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Caris LeVert, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen

Pistons: Jaden Ivey, Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, Bojan Bogdanovic, Isaiah Stewart

Prediction

The Cleveland Cavaliers have established themselves as a true contender in the Eastern Conference, a team with offensive and defensive star power and some key bench pieces as well. They have taken on all comers and stand among the best teams in the league. The Detroit Pistons, on the other hand, are 2-7 and taking the lumps of an extremely young team.

If the Cavs have everyone available they will be strong favorites to come away with the victory. The danger is clear, though, that coming down off the high of Garland’s return and another overtime win against the Celtics will lead this to be a trap game. That danger only increases if Garland or Mitchell miss the contest.

For now, those doubting the Cavs are being left out in the cold, so against a bad team they have to be picked to win. The Pistons’ bench is terrible and liable to be shredded by the Cavs, and with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley shutting down the paint the Pistons will need to be on fire from deep to keep pace.

Whether it’s Garland, Mitchell or both the Pistons will get carved up and that should overwhelm them. Let’s expect both to play for now and make the prediction accordingly.

Prediction: Cavaliers 119, Pistons 107

Bet: CLEVELAND (-6.5), OVER
