Cleveland Cavaliers new star Donovan Mitchell is quickly becoming a fan favorite and hasn’t disappointed. Not since LeBron James have the Wine and Gold had a player of his caliber.

Additionally, he’s now scored more than 30 points in his first three games and his 100 points through the seasons’ first three outings is a new Cavs record; he passed Austin Carr, who had 90 to open 1974-75.

After the team’s most recent win, an overtime victory against the Washington Wizards on Sunday night, Mitchell shared just how impressed he was with the fans at the game and the added energy they brought to the team. It was something that Mitchell couldn’t ignore as he tried to get into game mode; here was more on that front in his postgame media availability.

Mitchell has been very impressed with the Cavaliers fan base, and going forward, the Wine and Gold faithful will have plenty to be pumped about.

Mitchell’s account of the Cavs crowd being “electric” has been true before and now it’s true again as the new commander and chief of this young Cleveland team strives for more as the season unfolds.

It’s been a while since this crowd and fan base have been able to cheer on a legitimate star of the NBA. LeBron James was everything to this team in the past and there had been a void for several seasons. But then last year the team started to find its footing and the fans and the sports world for that matter got to see that Cleveland was back. Now with the offseason trade acquisition of Mitchell, we’re already being treated to some amazing things.

He’s the first Cavalier in the squads’ history to post more than 30 points in his first three games, as we alluded to. He recorded 31, 32, and 37 points respectfully versus the Toronto Raptors in a close road loss, and then had the aforementioned totals in wins over the Chicago Bulls and Washington.

It’s not as if we didn’t know this about him as a player, though. He’s always been able to score buckets but it’s the way he’s come into this season and made all of us believe even more that this team is for real and will contend for titles in the very near future. Plus, Mitchell’s playmaking has been great thus far, too.

Mitchell talked about catching himself smiling a few times during the game the other night. That smiling is contagious across the Cavaliers fan base as well because they can already sense what a difference their new star will be. Here’s to hoping those smiles continue for Mitchell and his fans.

It’s not often you can get such buy-in from a NBA All-Star and his new team so quickly but it all just seems like an outstanding fit.
