The Cleveland Cavaliers were 0-1 and missing their All-Star point guard, Darius Garland. The Chicago Bulls were 1-1 and were getting back their All-Star guard in Zach LaVine. With the game in Chicago, no one would have been surprised to see the Cavs stumble to an 0-2 start.

Instead, the Cavs smacked down the Bulls, leading by double-digits for most of the game and winning 128-96. Donovan Mitchell became the first Cavs player in franchise history to open up a season with back-to-back 30-point games, and Cedi Osman continued his strong play off the bench.

Now the Cavs race home for their home opener against the Washington Wizards. The Wiz are off to a 2-0 start, including a tight win over the Bulls on Friday night. Do the Cavs have another dominant performance in them, or will they be too tired to give Washington its first win?

Betting odds, spread, over/under

The Cavs are favored by 3.5 points tonight, their largest spread of the young season, as they host the Wizards. The over/under point total is set to 217.5.

Cavs injury report

Darius Garland missed the Cavs’ win over the Chicago Bulls last night, although he was still watching:

With the Cavs’ next game not until Wednesday, look for Garland to sit one more game to let his eyelid heal. Dylan Windler (ankle) is questionable, while Ricky Rubio will be out multiple months recovering from a torn ACL.

Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup tonight

Cavs: Donovan Mitchell, Caris LeVert, Isaac Okoro, Evan Mobley

Wizards: Monte Morris, Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, Deni Avdija, Kristaps Porzingis

Prediction

The Washington Wizards have some talented players, including Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. Either one of them would be a difficult matchup to slow down, but both together certainly are a challenge. Add in Cavs-killer Kyle Kuzma, and the Cavaliers can’t take this game for granted.

That being said, they looked really good last night against the Chicago Bulls, and what is more, they won via a dominant bench performance. The Wizards don’t have much to offer behind their starting 5, while the Cavs got major contributions from Kevin Love, Cedi Osman and Robin Lopez off the bench. They could absolutely shred Washington when the bench units match up.

The Cavs are on the second night of a back-to-back, and that’s the reason for concern here. Even so, Donovan Mitchell is on an absolute tear right now, and Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen will completely wall off the paint and force the Wizards to shoot. Could they get hot? Sure, but most likely the Cavs will throttle their attack and get enough from Mitchell to win.

Cavaliers 114, Wizards 109

Cavs -3.5, OVER 217.5
