3 high value bets to place on Cavs before the 2022-23 NBA season
3 can’t miss bets on Cavs: Donovan Mitchell to lead league in 3-pointers (+2000)
Last season Stephen Curry lead the league in 3-pointers per game, averaging 4.5 makes per game. That’s a familiar spot for Stephen Curry. The Toronto Raptors’ point guard Fred VanVleet was second, riding a hot shooting season to average 3.7 per game. Third on that list? Donovan Mitchell, now the newest member of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ core.
Based on Mitchell’s growth as a shooter and track record of shooting at a high volume, he should be among the league leaders again this year. Add in that Mitchell’s catch-and-shoot 3-point opportunities should increase, as well as his volume of open shots playing alongside Darius Garland and with Jarrett Allen’s paint gravity, and it is reasonable for Mitchell’s volume to increase.
Currently, Mitchell has the fifth-best odds to lead the league in 3-pointers made per game this season. The players ahead of him all have warts. Fred VanVleet is a candidate for regression, Damian Lillard is coming off of a major injury and Buddy Hield is both playing for a tanking team and liable to be traded.
That opens this up for Mitchell to be the best candidate not named Stephen Curry. If the Warriors’ guard loses some volume to Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson, or gets injured and misses the games played threshold, Mitchell could absolutely win the crown. At +2000 that means plenty of value present in the odds.
There are no sure things in NBA betting, and Las Vegas makes its money off of the misplaced confidence of those placing bets. Yet for those who pay close attention there is still plenty of value to be found. These three Cavs bets aren’t can’t miss, but they are must play for those looking for every edge.
