Every year in the NBA, there is a team or two that becomes the “darling” of the league. It’s pretty evident that the Cleveland Cavaliers were last year’s darling, nearly clinching a spot in the playoffs, when many thought they would be fighting for the top spot in last year’s draft. Even having said that, things can change quickly in the NBA, and the Cavaliers need to be prepared.

With that in mind, it was understandable when the Cavs front office decided to flip multiple future draft picks, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, and Collin Sexton for three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell. The Cavaliers are no longer the team everybody wants to root for, or the team that everyone has sympathy for considering the team’s relationship with Akron native, LeBron James.

However, this season the Cavaliers are bonafide playoff contenders, and will likely be fighting for a top four seed in the Eastern Conference. With the addition of Mitchell, the Cavs now have three All-Stars on their roster, with a fourth likely in due time with Evan Mobley. They have one of the best young cores in the NBA, but with that being said, they have become the hunted, instead of the hunter.

Now, the Cavs surprised teams last year with their tough defense and shot-blocking. On top of that, Darius Garland made the third-year leap everyone was hoping he would make.

But, there are still plenty of areas to improve this season, particularly on the offensive end. And here, we’ll highlight three key areas the Cavaliers should improve this season.
