On Monday, the Cleveland Cavaliers are set to have their second preseason outing, with them set to take on the Philadelphia 76ers once again.
The Cavaliers played at the 76ers in their preseason opener this past Wednesday in Philadelphia, which resulted in a narrow loss for the Wine and Gold 113-112. It was a promising performance, for the most part, though.
In that one, the play of the new-look star backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell was impressive in their time together, and Kevin Love in a spot start for Evan Mobley was sharp. Others such as Dean Wade, Lamar Stevens (defensively), and training camp invite Mamadi Diakite aided the group’s effort on Wednesday as well, and this go-round, the Cavs will look to build on that outing on Monday, this time at home.
So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the betting info for this one, and then we’ll examine the potential lineups and get into our prediction in a bit.
Cavaliers-Sixers: Odds, spread and over/under:
Per FanDuel, the Cavaliers are favored currently by 1.0 point over the Sixers here. The moneyline is set for -115 for Cleveland and -105 for Philadelphia; it’s nearly a toss-up it seems on the game, really.
There is not an over/under set for this contest, and with it being a preseason game, one shouldn’t be surprised if there is not.
Cavaliers-Sixers: Injury report:
Cavs injuries: Ricky Rubio (out, knee); Evan Mobley and Dylan Windler (day-to-day, ankle); Jamorko Pickett (day-to-day, back).
Sixers injuries: Montrezl Harrell (day-to-day, intercostal).
Cavaliers-Sixers: Projected starting lineups
Cavs starters: Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Caris LeVert/Isaac Okoro/Dean Wade, Kevin Love, Jarrett Allen.
Sixers starters: Tyrese Maxey, James Harden, P.J. Tucker, Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid.
Cavaliers-Sixers: Prediction
In this one, both the Cavs and 76ers would appear to be playing their starters at least a significant portion of the first half, and both want to those units to establish a rhythm.
For the Cavaliers, I’d look for Garland and Mitchell to set the tone, and though Mobley is likely not in there, and we’ll have to see in the final two preseason games, I would think Love should have opportunities again to hit looks. He reminded of us how lethal his sharpshooting still can be in a spot start last week in Philly, and his chemistry with the backcourt was encouraging as well.
For the game itself, I’d imagine that both teams will be looking to try out a variety of lineups, and here, while Jarrett Allen bouncing back would be something to keep an eye out for, how the bench guys look on the wing is definitely another element.
Overall, it’s difficult to project how these preseason outings will go with a bunch of different lineups likely to factor into it, but this go-round, I’ll say the Cavaliers get it done. Maybe training camp invite Sharife Cooper can build on his last outing as well, and make more of a case.
Cavs 110, Sixers 106
