The Cleveland Cavaliers currently have 14 players under contract for next season, plus a pair of Two-Way players and a handful of training camp invitees. NBA rules allow a team to have up to 20 players in training camp, but once the season begins that number must be trimmed down to 15 full-roster players and two Two-Way contracts.
That means that sometime before the season begins the Cavs will pare down the full amount of players in camp, but also have the opportunity to sign someone to a full contract to fill that 15th and final spot. It’s not required to fill the spot, but injuries and absences pile up quickly in the NBA and having as much depth as possible makes sense.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have one open roster spot. Which intriguing candidates can the Cavs consider taking a flier on to fill the 15th spot on the roster?
Barring a trade for another player such as Jae Crowder, the Cavs have just enough wiggle room under the luxury tax line to sign a player to a veteran’s minimum contract. Who will they turn to? With six guards they probably don’t need much backcourt depth, but that doesn’t mean the right player won’t alter that.
Similarly, they are flush with bigs. What about the wing? Which players who can hold up at the 3 are options? Let’s look at two players in Cavs Training Camp that they could sign to a full contract, and then one option who had a strong showing in EuroBasket 2022 and could be drumming up some interest.
