The Cleveland Cavaliers are ready to get things started for the 2022-23 NBA Season. After building out the bench in free agency and making a bombshell trade for Donovan Mitchell, the Cavs are poised to get into the gym officially and kick things off.

It’s a big season for the Cavs. For nearly three decades this team was either led by LeBron James or floundering in the lottery. This year is something different, as expectations have crept higher and higher and the Cavs are expected not only to compete but to easily make the playoffs.

NBA Media Day is today, and we will hear from many of the Cavs players and team personnel and get our burning questions answered. From there the team will kick off training camp, where the hard work of gelling this team together will continue.

When does 2022 Cavs Training Camp start?

Training Camp for the Cleveland Cavaliers officially kicks off one day after Media Day. Beginning Tuesday, September 27th the Cavs will all gather together to prepare for the season.

Where is the Cavs Training Camp located?

While many NBA teams choose to hold training camp on location away from home, the Cavs will be keeping things local. The vast majority of camp will take place in Cleveland at the team’s practice facility.

How long is the Cavs’ training camp?

While the team will continue to improve over the course of the preseason, training camp itself stretches from Tuesday, September 27th to Wednesday, October 5th when the Cavs travel to Philadelphia to play the 76ers in the preseason opener.

Is the Cavs Training Camp open to the public?

While there are a handful of community events taking place before the start of the season, training camp does not appear to be open to the public in any way. There are two preseason games in Cleveland on October 10th and October 12th that fans can attend to get their fix before the season behinds.

What is Cavs’ training camp roster?

The Cleveland Cavaliers, like any NBA team, can bring a maximum of twenty players to training camp. They will need to then cut that number down to 15 standard contracts and a pair of two-way contracts before the season begins. Here are the players on the training camp roster:

Isaiah Mobley and RJ Nembhard Jr. are on two-way deals, while Sharife Cooper, Mamadi Diakite, Nate Hinton and Jamorko Pickett are all on non-guaranteed training camp deals. The Cavs currently have just 14 players under contract, which means one of those non-guaranteed guys could play their way onto the roster with a strong camp.

Do NBA players get paid for training camp?

NBA players on a full contract have a number of expectations for team participation, and if they fail to meet those could lose some or all of their salary. It’s therefore technically correct to say that NBA players are paid for training camp. Players brought in specifically for training camp have a special kind of contract that pays them a modest amount as part of a non-guaranteed deal.

What is an NBA training camp contract?

Guys like Pickett and Cooper are on “Exhibit 10” or “Exhibit 9” contracts which are specifically designed for training camp. Diakite is the only player on an Exhibit 9, which is the lowest-level of investment a team can make in a player. The other three are on Exhibit 10 deals, which can be converted into a two-way contract and which feature higher payouts to players if and when they are waived.

These deals are non-guaranteed and designed to sign players up to the maximum of 20 during training camp. If the Cavs like what they see from one of these Exhibit 10 players, they could easily waive or convert one of their current two-way players and then convert one of the training camp deals into a two-way one.
