3 free agent wings still available Cavs could sign to 15th spot
3 Free Agent wings still available Cavs could sign: Jordan Nwora
Jordan Nwora is somewhat surprisingly still a free agent. The Milwaukee Bucks have restricted rights on the third-year player, and everyone expected them to bring him back on a small deal. What team would sign a player like Nwora to a small, perhaps even minimum-level contract, just to see the Bucks match the deal?
The reason the Cavs could make a move is that Milwaukee is up to 14 players, and they are deep into the luxury tax. They may want to keep that 15th spot open in order to save luxury tax payments, or they may want to sign two-way player Sandro Mamukelashvili to a full contract. If the Cavs offer Nwora anything more than the minimum, the Bucks would incur significant luxury tax penalties by matching. They need Nwora back on a minimum deal, or likely not at all.
The question is what Nwora wants, and if he is game for having a small role with the Cavs. If he is, the Cavs would be gaining one of the best shooters on the market, a 6’8″ small forward who has hit 37 percent of his 3-pointers during his career. Nwora is a decent rebounder and not a disaster on defense, and it’s possible he develops into a reliable rotation wing.
Jordan Nwora is the least available but most intriguing of the available options, a pool of players that is unfortunately quite thin. The Cavs need to prioritize adding a 15th player who can play minutes at small forward, and one of these players could fit the bill.
