3 Free Agent wings still available Cavs could sign: Wayne Ellington

Wayne Ellington is known for having one elite skill above all others, a skill that has kept him in the NBA for a number of years. That skill? Movement shooting.

Ellington is a career 41 percent 3-point shooter, and has hit at least 40 percent of his outside shots in all but two seasons. He also bombs at a high volume, putting up 12.2 3-pointers per-36 minutes across his 13-year career. He will get up shots, and they will go in at a high clip.

Even more so, Ellington is a movement shooter, meaning he is comfortable racing around screens and rising up immediately on the catch, orienting his body sometimes in midair to square to the rim and fire away. JJ Redick, Kyle Korver and Duncan Robinson are other players who have excelled as movement shooters. Having a player sprinting around the court who could pull up from 3 at any second bends defenses to the breaking point.

The Cavs don’t really have such a player on their roster, although Darius Garland may get there. Ochai Agbaji looked like a player ready to fill that role, but he is now gone to Utah. That could mean a spot is open for Ellington to continue his NBA career and get up some shots in specialized situations for the Cavs.

He is a bad defender and doesn’t do much else besides shooting, but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.
