What Cavs could be looking into with Chandler Vaudrin training camp deal
Vaudrin is an interesting versatile, local prospect
The tall point-guard at 6-foot-7 has a unique blend of size, skill, and creativity. If you watch his game, he plays a slower relaxed style that reminds me a bit of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey.
After being named All-Ohio in Division I during his junior and senior years of high school, his college career got started only a short drive from Cleveland at Walsh College in Canton. Eventually, he transferred to Winthrop when he decided he wanted a greater challenge.
Vaudrin was named the Big South Player of the Year during the 2020-2021 college season. He averaged 12 points per game, while also dishing out nearly seven assists per game, and collecting over seven rebounds per game. He went undrafted in 2021, but as I mentioned previously, he played with the Cavs Summer League squad until his injury.
Considering that we don’t really know when Ricky Rubio will be healthy, definitively that is, it made sense for the Cavs to at least take another look at the talented guard. Even with the addition of another very good ball-handler in Donovan Mitchell, we saw at times last year, that the Cavaliers struggled when Darius Garland had to shoulder too much of the load.
