Cavs NBA 2K23 ratings are off for these Cavs: Dean Wade

If you’ve been following the site here at King James Gospel closely, you will know that we are big fans of Dean Wade. He is the quintessential role player, a good defender and a good enough shooter who makes every lineup he is in better. He’s not going to drive offense or anchor a defense, but as the 5th guy on the court he will excel.

Turning the game on, I was excited to plug Dean Wade into the starting lineup to try out the Cleveland Cavaliers. To find him, however, I had to scroll down….and down….and down. Wade has just a 73 rating in the game, which is essentially unplayable. He is below Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens and even Raul Neto; the only roster player ranked lower than Wade is Dylan Windler, who has barely seen the court across an injury-plagued start to his career.

Players rated more highly than Dean Wade for this season? The Atlanta Hawks’ Frank Kaminsky, the Chicago Bulls’ Tony Bradley, the Detroit Pistons’ Saben Lee, Terry Taylor of the Indiana Pacers and Lonnie Walker IV on the Los Angeles Lakers. That’s a collection of players who should barely be rotation options, and instead are ranked more highly than a player with a compelling case to start on a playoff team.

In particular, Wade’s defensive rating is abysmal, clocking in at just 52 overall. That’s unconscionable from the game designers. As the season goes on and Wade proves to be a valuable part of the Cavs’ rotation, that rating better go up and quickly.
