Taking a look at potential free agents Cavs should consider signing
Examining other potential Cavs free agency options
There are a few forwards the Cleveland Cavaliers should consider signing. The obvious choice for the Cavaliers to sign at the forward position would be future Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, a great scorer even though he’s closer to forty than he is to thirty, but has never been good at defense, even when he had 20-year-old legs.
He may not fit the already subpar defensive backcourt that the Cavs are running at the moment, even if his three-point shooting for the Lakers last season was at a great 37.5% on nearly six attempts per game.
Other options include Trevor Ariza or Kent Bazemore, but they have seen a large decrease in ability as they have aged, creating questions on how much they can contribute to this young Cavaliers team. They are safe, low-upside choices.
Another choice could be 23-year-old Jarrett Culver, a defensive beast with less than encouraging shooting splits, although he lacked spacing with the Minnesota Timberwolves even with a player like Karl-Anthony Towns at center and was very limited with the Memphis Grizzlies.
He is big enough to play small forward while being quick enough to play shooting guard. Pairing the former top-10 pick with Darius Garland or Donovan Mitchell may prove to be beneficial to the Cavaliers as they try to find answers for their defense.
If the Cavs choose to fill in their final roster spot, any of these choices are sure-fire hits for the roster to make them even more dangerous this season than they already are.
