The Great Tier

Teams in this tier have proven young players but might lack the overall depth to be a dynasty.

Atlanta Hawks Notable Players: Dejounte Murray, Trae Young, John Collins, De’Andre Hunter

It was just one season prior when the Atlanta Hawks led by Young were able to make the Eastern Conference Finals. Now add in an elite defender in Murray and things are looking up for the Hawks. Their overall lack of notable young players keeps them out of the dynasty tier.

Phoenix Suns Notable Players: Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges

The Suns are in win-now mode which makes it all the more impressive that three of their four best players are 25 and under, but not enough to launch them into the dynasty tier for me. A dominant last season for them showed them being dismantled by Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Semifinals. The big question going into the offseason was what they were going to do with Ayton and they were able to maintain him which gets them into the great tier.

New Orleans Pelicans Notable Players: Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Herb Jones, Jose Alvarado

Adding Alvarado on here might be a bit gracious but Ingram is a bonafide bucket-getter and how quickly we forget Williamson’s monster season the year before last where he averaged 27 points per game. Jones is a pest defensively and will give the opposing team’s best player trouble for years to come.
