The Cleveland Cavaliers are forming their plan for next season. Building on last year’s surprise success, what does it look like to integrate new pieces and build on that foundation to be even better in 2022-23? Part of that plan is deciding who on the Cavs roster should start at shooting guard.

There are a handful of options to consider. Isaac Okoro started most of the games last season, while Caris LeVert was brought in at a significant cost to play the 2. Rookie Ochai Agbaji may be the future of the position. Ricky Rubio, when healthy, thrives alongside Darius Garland in two-PG setups.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are working out their starting lineup. What’s the case for Collin Sexton starting at shooting guard for the Cavs?

Today, however, we make a case for a player who technically is not even on the Cavaliers’ roster right now. Collin Sexton was the starter to begin the year, and in fact, hasn’t come off of the bench since his rookie season (when he started 72 of 82 games played).

The Cavs clearly see Sexton as a bench player moving forward, and perhaps that is the role where he can be best-utilized long-term. For next season, however, why might he be the best answer to start at shooting guard next to Darius Garland in the backcourt? Let’s look at three reasons.
