2 realistic expectations for Collin Sexton in 2022-23, if he’s back with Cavs

Realistic expectation No.2: Sexton leads the Cavs in scoring
Now hear me out, Sexton lead the team in scoring back-to-back seasons averaging 20.8 and 24.3 respectively. Basketball Reference projects Collin Sexton to pour in 23.3 points per next season which would put him in the running to lead the team if he can achieve this. Granted, we’ll have to see if Sexton is back, but the potential is there.
With the emergence of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, I only see this benefitting Sexton. As now that Garland has found his footing Sexton can be a spot-up shooter/slasher and occasionally bring the ball up the floor. By looking at everything basketball-related Mobley and Garland are better players but Sexton is a more prolific scorer. The rising duo of Garland and Mobley may have defenses scrambling and could lead to Sexton having open looks.
Most teams would probably place their better perimeter defender on Garland rather than Sexton. The Atlanta Hawks, for example, would more than likely place Dejounte Murray on Garland which would leave Trae Young on Sexton, at least to some extent, which sounds like an easy 40-point performance if the opportunities are there.
Additionally from there, Jarrett Allen’s presence around the rim will also force teams to protect the paint which could lead to more open looks for Sexton or an inverse effect where Sexton’s shot is falling and the paint is now open.
Whether you love him or hate him it will be interesting to see how this whole situation wraps up and hopefully, that is soon as the season is a little under 2 months away.
