Realistic expectation No. 1: Sexton comes off the bench and is a Sixth Man of the Year candidate

The first realistic expectation for Sexton is for him to fall into a Lou Williams/Jordan Clarkson role and be a spark plug scoring machine off the bench. When Clarkson won the award in 2021, he averaged 18.4 points per game to go with 4.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game for the Utah Jazz.

This is well within the realm of possibility for Sexton as his career numbers are similar albeit he was a starter for the vast majority of those games. I could see the Cavs easing Sexton into the first couple of games, considering he is coming off a torn meniscus, and by bringing him off the bench this could help him gain some confidence.

Now, this might not be something that is ideal in that regard, however, while it is prior to training camp, Caris LeVert is reportedly likely to start, so that plays into this. I also find it hard to believe for Sexton to buy into this role but if it’s for the best of the team I think he would come along eventually.
