Evan Mobley is an absolutely special player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was one of the rare rookies who steps into the NBA as a teenager and immediately makes a positive impact. His defensive versatility out of the gate for the Cavs last year was a major part of their top-5 finish defensively and their winning record.

Heading into his second season, just how impactful is Mobley already compared to his peers? That is a question that Hoops Hype attempted to answer in a general sense, ranking the “Top 25 power forwards for the 2022-23 season.” A panel of HoopsHype contributors put together the list, which is headlined by Giannis Antetokounmpo at the top.

The Cavs’ Evan Mobley checked in at sixth on a ranking of the NBA’s best power forwards. Is that the right spot on this wildly inconsistent list?

Evan Mobley was ranked sixth on the list, just behind Pascal Siakam and just ahead of Scottie Barnes, the player who barely beat him out for Rookie of the Year last season. That’s a high position for a second-year player. Did he deserve to be ranked sixth?

We’ll get to that question, but before we do we have to address the list itself. While on the surface it seems like a straightforward exercise to rank the top power forwards in the league, this list takes a crazy path towards that goal. What are our problems with their wildly inconsistent list, who on the list was mis-ranked, and then finally, where does Mobley fit in?
