Last season the Cleveland Cavaliers were absolutely cruising, with one of the best point differentials in the Eastern Conference and a relatively soft second-half schedule awaiting them. Then injuries and health and safety protocols ravaged their rotation, and by the NBA Trade Deadline, the Cavs were in a precarious position.

The front office decided to make a bold move, trading for Indiana Pacers wing Caris LeVert. They sent a lottery-protected first-round pick and the best second-round pick in the 2022 draft to the Pacers for LeVert, hoping he would help solve some weaknesses and boost the Cavs over the playoff finish line.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are evaluating who to start at shooting guard. Here are three reasons why Caris LeVert is the player the Cavs should choose.

Instead, LeVert got hurt almost as soon as he arrived, and played in just 19 regular season games and the two Play-In contests. The Cavs didn’t really ever see him play with the rest of the core, as Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton were out for the year and Jarrett Allen missed most of the end of the season due to an injury of his own.

That leaves a lot of question marks swirling around LeVert and the Cavs heading into next season. Should LeVert start alongside Darius Garland, or is he better deployed in a bench role? This question is all the more pressing with LeVert entering the final year of his contract and eligible for a contract extension. Does LeVert deserve to start? Let’s break down why he should.
