The best and worst-case scenarios for Cavs’ Caris LeVert this season

The worst-case scenario for LeVert with the Cavs in 2022-23
Although LeVert could easily come off the bench and be the efficient, ball-handling scorer this Cavs team desperately needs, he could just as easily be the inefficient scorer off the bench that he was last season. However, that’s not the worst-case scenario for the Michigan product.
The worst-case scenario would start when the Cavs offer him a large extension, committing to LeVert and being okay with letting Sexton walk. I’m okay with keeping LeVert if his best-case scenario comes to fruition. I believe in the guy, but I also know that Collin Sexton is a better basketball player and should be prioritized.
The next part to the worst-case scenario would be that he plays like he did off the bench last season, as a full-time starter. Then you would have committed to him, given him the job over Sexton, and watch his game completely melt down in the process.
Starting for most of the season and shooting the team out of games early would be an absolute disaster. As much as I hate to admit, he is absolutely capable of doing that, especially considering what we saw from him off the bench last season. If he brought that with him as a starter, we might as well be looking ahead at the 2023-24 season.
This isn’t an article about the most realistic scenario for LeVert this season, so no, I don’t think he will stink it up and make you question your fandom for this team, but I do think it’s possible.
Any scenario where the team let’s Sexton walk for nothing is a worst-case scenario, in that sense for next offseason. Considering the Cavaliers’ rumored long-term interest in LeVert despite his glaring inconsistencies last season, it would be devastating to lose Sexton under those circumstances.
But, I would like to reiterate that I believe in Caris LeVert. I think he has a buy-in mentality and will do whatever the teams asks of him. Having a guy like that around can really boost a team, especially when that guy can come out and score 35-plus points in any given game.
