The coaching staff of the Cleveland Cavaliers is currently reviewing tape, crunching numbers and sketching out plays and matchups for next season, all in an attempt to design the best rotation. To maximize this team’s level of play in the 2022-23 NBA season, the Cavs want to put the best groups of players on the court together.

The tricky thing with crafting a rotation is you oh-so-rarely get to use it. Injuries knock some players out and force others into differing roles; foul trouble or game flow dictate tweaks in-the-moment to the rotation. Blowouts often necessitate sitting the starters, while close games may result in the coaches pushing the stars a bit further than usual.

Let’s craft the perfect rotation for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2022-23 season. Here is not who the Cavs will play, but who the Cavs should play.

Yet in the end, the coaching staff needs a plan, something to stand on before making adjustments as the situation dictates. Here is a first look at what such a plan should be. Note: this is not a prediction of what the coaching staff will do, but rather what they should do given all of the available players.

For now, we are considering Collin Sexton as un-signed and therefore unavailable to put into the rotation. For now Ricky Rubio is also out as he rehabs from his knee injury. Finally, keep in mind that injuries and opponent will see some players go in-and-out of the lineup, meaning depth is important, but it’s impractical to regularly play more than 10 players, so that’s how many we are using here.
