Ranking all Cavs on chances of being an All-Star: Evan Mobley

All-Star Chances: 40%

While Jarrett Allen made the All-Star Game last year, it’s his frontcourt partner in Evan Mobley with a better chance to make the game this time around. Mobley got some low-level buzz a year ago, even as a rookie, because of his standout defense and burgeoning offensive game.

Mobley is a truly special defender, one of the best rookie defenders in modern NBA history. When the names of Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett are rightfully invoked, something unique is happening. A full offseason of development could propel Mobley to even further heights.

It’s the offensive side of the court where Mobley has the most unrealized potential, as he is skilled enough to potentially boost his scoring and facilitate more from the elbow. Last year as a rookie he averaged 15 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. It’s almost a given he will boost those numbers to something like 17, 9 and 3.

If Mobley takes on even more of an offensive load and puts together a 20-point, 10-rebound, four-assists season, the league’s coaches will be hard-pressed to leave him off the All-Star Team.
