3 reasons to think Collin Sexton can thrive on the Cavs: Competitive Fire

Probably the most famous Collin Sexton story is the time that his Alabama Crimson Tide team found itself down to three eligible players in a game against the Minnesota Gophers, and yet the teenage Sexton still dropped 31 second-half points to keep the game respectable. Even with a two-man advantage another major conference basketball team couldn’t figure out how to properly slow him down.

Sexton burns with a special fire, and it drives him in a number of areas. That innate competition to prove himself better than his opponent makes him a good basketball player, and it rubs off on his teammates. The Cavs love having Sexton in the locker room, and his energy could be infectious to his teammates no matter how many minutes he is playing.

The Cavs want Sexton around as part of their team culture, and they want him firing up his teammates in the huddle, slapping the court on defense and refusing to let his team get complacent with a big lead. The coaching staff won’t need to find ways to motivate Sexton on the court; he brings that himself to every contest.

It’s possible that Sexton convinces a team to give him a contract, or that he truly does sit out for the year. More likely, he will be back with the Cavs next season, one way or the other. These three attributes support the belief that the Cavs organization has, that Sexton could be a valuable piece of their team success next season.
