The narrative for Collin Sexton and the Cleveland Cavaliers has oscillated all over the place, despite the facts of the matter being fairly simple. The Cavs see Sexton as a Sixth Man, have always offered him money along those lines, and it’s up to Sexton whether he accepts that, signs an offer elsewhere, or returns on the one-year qualifying offer.

What that doesn’t mean is that the Cavs are “lowballing” him, necessarily, although Sexton and/or his camp may feel that way. It doesn’t mean the Cavs don’t want him back; on the contrary, they have always maintained they would love Sexton back, but need to stick to a contract number that fits the role they have for him.

The Cavs continue to maintain they want Collin Sexton to return next season. Here are three reasons to think that Sexton can thrive on the Cavs.

Because of the difficulties in Sexton’s fit in the starting lineup, specifically his desire to have the ball in his hands, his limited playmaking and his lack of defensive size and production, it’s been easy to slide too far and assume Sexton wouldn’t be a valuable player on the Cavs next season. He would! He can’t be the on-ball scoring machine he was two seasons ago, but he can absolutely still be successful and help the Cavaliers win games.

To that end, let’s highlight three reasons why Sexton could return and thrive on the Cavs, both next season and beyond. The young guard still has a lot to offer; what does it look like for he and the Cavs to unlock that?
