What positions would Cavs play on Browns? Kevin Love – Quarterback

Initially one might think that a point guard is best suited to play quarterback, and there is some logical overlap there. A point guard is used to reading defenses, finding openings and firing pinpoint passes to teammates in stride. Many NBA point guards used to play quarterback, and vice versa.

Yet any basketball player will be at a disadvantage throwing a football overhand, which is very different than the variety of ways most NBA players pass the ball. That provides an advantage to Kevin Love, whose favorite play in all of basketball may just be the “football” pass.

Anyone who has watched the Cavs since Love arrived has seen it: Love rebounds an opponent’s miss, pivots, and launches the ball down the court as if he is “going deep” to a streaking wide receiver. He is exceptionally accurate too, often dropping it right into their arms so they can dunk or lay it in without a dribble.

Love’s height at 6’8″ is middling for an NBA big man but monstrous for a quarterback, and it will give him the angle to see over the offensive line in front of him and see the perfect place to drop in his passes. With the Browns’ current quarterback suspended for at least six games, perhaps Love is worth a tryout?
