Cavs trade idea with Rockets swaps Sexton for veteran wing
Cavs trade idea with Rockets: Final Thoughts
The Cavaliers are completely fine having Sexton back at a low number, and they feel that they have the leverage to wait him out. They would need some real incentive to give up that negotiating spot and move Sexton to another team. At the same time, Sexton is not under contract, so any deal won’t necessarily bring back commensurate value to Sexton, either.
This deal with the Rockets makes sense, but it doesn’t blow them out of the water. It also only makes marginal sense for Houston, who have a slightly worse version of Sexton already in-house; is it worth it to bring another combo guard in instead of chasing down a true point guard of the future? If that player is TyTy Washington, the Rockets are already set.
This deal makes the most sense for Sexton, but he has the least say in the matter. In the end, this deal would make the Cavs a little better, the Rockets a little better, and perhaps not enough of either to make it worth it to either side. Given the Rockets’ long-term timetable, this seems unlikely to happen. If it did, Gordon would be a solid piece for the Cavs to rely upon in their rotation for the next few years.
Final Verdict: Unlikely, but not a bad deal overall.
