The Cleveland Cavaliers picked up Ochai Agbaji with the 14th pick in this year’s NBA Draft. The youngster from Kansas had a solid college career and unlike many college players making the leap to the NBA prior to graduating, Agbaji stayed and completed all four seasons.

Some have questioned the draft pick because it’s one that takes a more solid player that was a steady scorer but doesn’t have the bells and whistles to go along with that.

I completely disagree and believe another kid from Kansas (remember the Cavs have Dean Wade already, from Kansas State) will add another tough player, who has a knack for scoring and playing good defense. He’s also a player that will give you 110 % all game with his hustle.

Maybe it’s the “old school” coach in me but the case for Agbaji having success with the Cavs is very likely for the upcoming season and moving forward.

As for the two Kansas kids on the team now, don’t let that suggest to you they’ll be best friends, though that could happen of course. Kansas and Kansas State are archrivals and don’t have a lot of love for each other. Of course, if you follow college basketball, if you throw in a player from Missouri, then both Wade and Agbaji would team together to defeat the Missouri player as the rivalry between Kansas and Missouri basketball is even more heated.

Where Agbaji starts, either as a starter or coming off the bench this season will be interesting to follow, particularly as the season wears on. The Cavs desperately need players that can score on the perimeter more and take the pressure off a few of their other starters like Darius Garland and Evan Mobley.

So, with that, let’s look a bit more at the best and worst-case scenario for Agbaji as he’ll be in the mix early and often.
