Pros, cons of BR’s Sexton trade idea for Cavs and Mavericks

Every year NBA Free Agency seems to get crazier and crazier, and somehow this year took little money and little big-name free agents and concocted its own version of crazy. From the Kevin Durant trade demand to the bonkers Rudy Gobert trade that actually happened, things have been wild. The Cavs have certainly had their share of crazy summers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers avoided most of the insanity this year, making a few small moves and then handing All-Star point guard Darius Garland a maximum rookie extension to kick in next summer. Yet that quiet offseason thus far could explode at any moment; possibly because of a trade for someone like Donovan Mitchell, but more likely by the resolution to the Collin Sexton situation.

The Cavs have to consider all options to resolve the Collin Sexton negotiations. What about Bleacher Report’s proposed trade with the Mavericks?

Sexton was the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and therefore has completed his full rookie contract. After he and the Cavs failed to come to an agreement on a deal last fall, he is now a restricted free agent. He can sign with another team, but there are rules on how the contract is structured and the Cavs have the right to match any offer.

Things have been quiet thus far, and it’s well reported that the two sides would like a reunion but aren’t close on the money. If a team comes in with a strong sign-and-trade offer, the Cavs will surely at least listen.

In that vein, here is one potential trade from the Dallas Mavericks proposed by Bleacher Report. The deal:
