Jarrett Allen is one of the faces of the franchise for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His true place in the pecking order of the Cavs is a little up in the air. It is clear that he is a franchise player, however, whether his is the first, second, or even third option on the team is up in the air.
He joined the team through the trade that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets. Allen being acquired by the Cavaliers was overlooked at the time of the trade a bit, but, it could be argued that the Cavs were the team that benefitted the most from the deal.
For only Dante Exum, a Milwaukee Bucks first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick the Cavs received Taurean Prince and Jarrett Allen. While Prince did not stick around in Cleveland for long, Allen has blossomed into the team’s franchise center for the foreseeable future.
Allen is a player that does not need the ball in his hands to be one of the most impactful players on the court. He is a perfect pick-and-roll partner for players like Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. Along with this, the amount of extra possessions that he gave the Cavaliers over the course of the year was significant. Along with this, he is one of the best defensive big men in the entire NBA. He is an incredible interior presence and rim protector.
Things have been amazing so far with Allen on the Cavaliers, but with him being only 24 years old, there is still time for his game to improve even further. As a result of this, there are two major goals for Jarrett Allen for the 2022-23 season.
