Goal #2: Average seven rebounds per game

The second goal for Markkanen will be very dependent on how many minutes he is receiving per game. As previously mentioned, we are assuming that he will be in a similar role to what he had last year. If that is the case, getting up to seven rebounds should be very achievable for him. However, if he is given a bench role, maintaining 5.7 rebounds a game should still be achievable.

Rebounding is one of the weaker parts of Markkanen’s game when taking his size into account. As a result of this, if he is able to achieve this goal, it would mean encouraging things about his 2022-2023 season, and for his team impact.

It will definitely be a tall task and will take a lot of effort and growth for him to complete this goal. Especially with talented rebounders in Kevin Love, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen sharing the court with him as well.

Over his career, he has averaged 6.8 rebounds per game, however, as his time in the NBA has gone on, his rebounds per game have slowly declined.

Achieving this goal would be a swing in the right direction for Markkanen’s rebounding numbers and would allow the Cavaliers to be in better shape throughout games in terms of closing defensive possessions, which was an area they were inconsistent in last year.
