2 goals for Cavs’ Evan Mobley in the 2022-23 season
By Zane Harris
Goal #1: Average two blocks per outing for the Cavs
The second major goal for Evan Mobley this season is to average two blocks per game. This is another goal that Mobley could easily achieve this season. Rim protection is not particularly an area of his game that needs attention. In fact, Mobley came into the league as an elite shot blocker.
Last year, he finished the league in 6th place in blocks per game, finishing behind Jaren Jackson Jr., Robert Williams III, Rudy Gobert, Mitchell Robinson, and Jakob Poeltl. Only three of those players finished the season with two or more blocks per game, and Mobley very well could be a member of that list next season.
Playing alongside another elite shot blocker in Jarrett Allen makes it more difficult for Mobley to get blocks than it does for some other players on the list.
Despite this, with another offseason of training and Mobley being more familiar with the game of some of the opponents he will be playing next season, 2.0 blocks per game is very achievable even with another elite shot blocking teammate.
Next season will be another exciting one for both Mobley and the Cavaliers. If he is able to meet these two goals, he will be well on pace to take a huge step in his game and even closer to being a star.
