Throughout this offseason, one of the significant topics of conversation involving the Cleveland Cavaliers has been the situation involving Collin Sexton, and his next contract. Sexton seemingly could’ve been extended last offseason, but the two sides did not come to an agreement, and after Sexton missed most of last season because of a meniscus injury, it’s made negotiations more complicated.

Sexton is currently a restricted free agent after the Cavaliers extended him a qualifying offer for next season, and there is reportedly a “real chance” that Sexton could play next season on that QO of $7.2 million. If that were to occur, he could help his value for next offseason, when he’d be able to hit the unrestricted free agency market.

It does still seem to be a good possibility that the two sides involving Sexton/his representation in Klutch Sports and the Cavaliers could come to an agreement on a new contract, though. Sexton’s camp is reportedly be seeking a deal seemingly in the $18-22 million per year range, whereas Cleveland is rumored to be in the ball park of it appears more so mid teens in millions per year range.

There’s some work that needs to be done for an agreement to happen, point being. With that said, a potential sign-and-trade could emerge involving Sexton. Others had been rumored to have interest in Sexton, and as of late, the Utah Jazz have been a club linked to him.

According to a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, Utah “explored” a sign-and-trade where Mike Conley would be sent to the Cavaliers “in exchange” for Sexton’s services. Evan Dammarell of Fear The Sword and Right Down Euclid did state in a recent report/mail bag how while Fischer’s report/sources were accurate, Dammarell’s sources expressed how that was prior to Cleveland signing Ricky Rubio and Raul Neto. Following that, the Jazz-Cavaliers talks involving the suggested deal, per Dammarell’s report, “fizzled out.”

That being said, although a Conley trade would seem out of the question following the Neto and Rubio deals, there are two logical trade targets from the Jazz to me that would be sensible if a sign-and-trade involving Sexton to Utah did transpire.

For reference, if Sexton were to sign a four-year deal of $84 million, of which Dammarell’s report stated is a desired ball park, if Sexton were set to make $21 million next season, his outgoing trade value for Cleveland would be for $10.5 million. As Dammarell touched on, for the team trading a player via sign-and-trade, their base-year comp counts for 50 percent of their salary that coming season.

Now, we’ll get further into the guys we were hinting at from Utah, and to me, the others involved in a possible sign-and-trade sent out from Cleveland could feasibly be Dylan Windler, Cedi Osman, whose deal is non-guaranteed in 2023-24, and say, a future second-round pick. The Cavs would bring back two players from Utah, in this case.

So, with that sort of thing in mind, let’s get take a look at two Jazz players that I’d be on-board with the Cavs obtaining if a sign-and-trade were to happen.

We’ll begin with the first target.
