The Cavs pick at 14

14. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jalen Williams, Wing, Santa Clara (6’6″, 195 LBS)

Some would be ecstatic if the Cavs bring Williams to Cleveland. On the other side, fans would argue that Williams was an average college player his first two seasons at Santa Clara, and thrived this year against poor competition. Personally, I’ve come around on Williams.

He definitely has the frame and bulk to play the wing in the NBA. On top of that, his basketball IQ is very high. He attacks the rim methodically, while also changing speeds and using his great hesitation move. From the three-point arc, he was nearly a 40% shooter this past season and is an improved shooter from that range.

On the defensive end of the court, Williams has the tools to be a good defender. He’s not the most explosive or quickest, but he’s a physical player that uses his body to his advantage.

However, Williams had a huge growth spurt from his sophomore year of high school to his freshman year at Santa Clara. Meaning that he still has the guard skills, but the frame of a wing.

We’ll have to see if the Cavaliers do indeed eventually make Williams the selection here in the first round, but even if not, there are a lot of good players to be had this year near there.
