3 factors that will determine if Pistons trade for Sexton: How much Detroit offers

Is Collin Sexton interested in playing for the Detroit Pistons? That’s a question we don’t know the answer to, and largely can’t unless Sexton explicitly tells us. What will probably speak the loudest in determining his interest is how much the Pistons are willing to offer.

The chatter this offseason has been that Sexton loves being in Cleveland. If the money being offered from another team is similar to what the Cavs are offering, there is a very good chance he stays in Cleveland. He has a significant role, likely starting, and this is the team that drafted and developed him. He genuinely seems to be close to many of his teammates.

If the Cavs are offering $16 million a year, however, and the Pistons dangle $22? Suddenly his interest may go up. He has to be ok any sign-and-trade deal to send him elsewhere, but he also likely needs to tell the Cavs he wants to go to Detroit to gain the leverage for a sign-and-trade deal anyways.

For the Pistons to make a trade offer for Sexton, they will need to navigate the early steps of the offseason without filling that spot or sacrificing the financial flexibility to go after him. If they still have interest and Sexton reciprocates, then Detroit could be the top candidate to lure Collin Sexton away.
