3 reasons the Cavs should trade for Donovan Mitchell

#3: The potential to recruit coach Quin Snyder
Part of the bigger picture in this story of trying to trade for Mitchell is that the Cavs might be able to attract Quin Snyder to the team in an assistant coaching role. Snyder recently resigned as the Jazz head coach and Mitchell has been reported as being disappointed with the move, per Wojnarowski. He and Snyder had a good bond.
Snyder was the head coach of the Jazz from 2014 until now. Before that, he had a nice career as an assistant with various NBA teams, from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Atlanta Hawks. He also was the head coach of the Missouri Tigers at the collegiate level from 1999 through 2006.
He certainly would bring experience to the bench. I’ve been pretty critical of the Cavs current head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and his lack of knowledge or ability to coach a game of importance when it matters most.
Having Snyder as an additional coach, at least potentially in this sense, would be a real benefit to Mitchell, plus he’d be another voice on a coaching bench that might lack the knowledge when the games are on the line.
And if and when Bickerstaff was to leave or get fired, which I believe down the road could be a possibility if he doesn’t improve his game management, Snyder would be a solid replacement to lead the Cavaliers into the future.
If the Cavs really want to get to the playoffs and get to an NBA Finals, they have to start thinking more outside the box. While they were a feel-good story this past season, improving on that has to be priority number one. If the team simply brings back the same team, yes they may get better and get to the playoffs, but they need to find a few veterans in the league that have that playoff experience, too. Mitchell has expressed his displeasure with the recent news of his coach leaving.
What a great way to make this team instantly better than by bringing in Mitchell and also potentially attracting Snyder to the team in an assistant coach role.
