Bryce McGowens Scouting Report

McGowens is certainly an intriguing prospect. Playing in one of the best conferences in all of college basketball, the Big Ten, he carried Nebraska through a couple of games.

On the offensive end, he’s a smooth operator, who is at his best when he’s getting downhill. At times this past season, he would just settle for a pull-up, rather than going hard at the rim. He does have a slender frame, but like I said earlier, he’s got a quick first step, and attacks the basket with authority.

I know, his shooting splits are less than impressive. Some of that can be blamed on bad shot selection, but he also altered his shot midway through Nebraska’s season. His mechanics aren’t perfect, but he is very smooth, so when he doesn’t settle, he’s much better. No Ceilings’ Tyler Metcalf did a great breakdown of his film, that proves he’s much better when he’s aggressive on the offensive end going toward the basket.

On the defensive end, as with most prospects I’ve looked at thus far, it’s all about effort. He is explosive, so he has the lateral speed to keep up with most solid wings in the game, and his wingspan helps him get into passing lanes.

And as you would figure, he’s very good on the fastbreak. He also does get to the charity stripe often, too, knocking those down at a solid 83%.
