As teams come back from the combine, and adjust their big boards, who the Cleveland Cavaliers take with the 14th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, set to commence on June 23, is still up in the air at the moment it seems.

A couple of prospects like Dyson Daniels and Bennedict Mathurin surely improved their stock, while Patrick Baldwin Jr. certainly did not help his own case. One prospect who seems to be rising a little bit on draft boards is former Nebraska guard Bryce McGowens.

The 6’6.5”, 181-pound wing is on track to become the highest former Nebraska Cornhusker to be drafted since 1998, when former Cavalier head coach, Tyronn Lue, was drafted 23rd overall. His wingspan is nearly 6’9″ and McGowens also projects to be a solid wing at the next level, should he receive his share of opportunities in coming years. At the combine he headlined one of Roc Nation’s Pro Days.

After playing only one season at Nebraska, it’s starting to look like he made the right decision to go pro, regardless of that season being with a bad team. McGowens seems to be a late riser.

Now, considering we’re still two-and-a-half weeks away from the draft, there is no mock draft “consensus” at this point. However, in a mock draft from The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie a few weeks ago (subscription required), he had the Memphis Grizzlies selecting McGowens with the 22nd overall pick. So that’s maybe something to keep in mind.

Before we get into his potential fit on the Cavaliers roster for years to come, let’s take a closer look at some of McGowens’ strengths and weaknesses.
