Williams’ collegiate path, and emergence as a transfer

Williams is an interesting combo guard that played his junior collegiate season with Wake Forest, after playing his first two seasons collegiately with Oklahoma.

In his freshman and sophomore campaigns with the Sooners, he averaged 6.0 points and 1.9 rebounds, then 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds, to go with 1.3 assists in 16.6 and then 18.5 minutes per contest. As a freshman, he started in 10 of 31 appearances, and as a sophomore, started in 14 of his 24 appearances.

This now-past season, he had a junior year leap after transferring to play for the Demon Deacons, and on the year, had 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 34.1 minutes per game. He started in all of his 35 appearances in 2021-22 for Wake Forest, too.

The allure with Williams as a prospect that’d be a sensible Cavaliers target, perhaps at #39 in the upcoming draft, relates to his driving and passing capabilities. He again had 5.2 assists per contest this last season for the Demon Deacons, and as a rim pressure player, converted on 60.3 percent of his two-point field goal attempts.

So how could Williams help out the Wine and Gold in coming years, potentially? Let’s examine that further next, and look at how he could mesh with some other Cavs.
