Maybe McGowens or possibly Patrick Baldwin Jr.?

There are two players I would love the Cavaliers to target if they do fall into the second round. The first is Bryce McGowens, a lengthy 6’7″ guard with a lot of offensive talent.

He can score adequately from all three levels, but will need time to adjust to NBA defenses. In McGowen’s only season at Nebraska, he averaged 17 points per game and showed off his offensive arsenal. He’s not the most explosive athlete, but he can play above the rim, and in the open floor, his length make it look like he’s gliding.

Unfortunately for McGowens, he’s another prospect in this 2022 NBA Draft class that needs to add some muscle. Weighing in at only 180 pounds soaking wet, he’s not going to overpower anyone, but he makes up for it by creating separation with his length. The guard from Nebraska would be a great second-round addition for the Cavs. However, there might be a better one.

I know I wasn’t very high on Patrick Baldwin Jr. in my scouting report, but he had a terrible season, and his combine performance was underwhelming. And today ESPN had him falling to the second round in their latest mock draft (subscription required).

If the 6’9″ wing does fall to the second round, the Cavaliers should do everything in their power to acquire him. You can’t find 6’9″ players that have a great natural stroke like Baldwin Jr. does that regularly. There are definitely injury concerns, and shot selection questions, although he has a great frame, and nice, swift, compact shooting stroke. Getting out of the upcoming draft with Baldwin Jr. and whoever they take at 14 would be a major win for the Cavaliers and the front office.

With about three weeks to go until the NBA Draft, set to commence on June 23, players are set to be working out privately for different teams. I’m sure there will be much more information coming out of those workouts as well.

However, as a fan, there’s not much else we can do but wait. I’ve voiced my opinion for who I think fits best with the Cavs, but I would hope that the front office knows exactly what the Cavaliers need to be a playoff threat next year.
