The most realistic option: Jean Montero, Overtime Elite

If I were writing this article about six months ago, there’s no way I would have projected both Jean Montero and JD Davison would become late second-round picks. However, both have different skill sets, but could easily pick up the Cavalier offense. If they were to draft a young point guard, he would be able to learn from one of the best in Darius Garland.

Montero is your prototypical lightning quick point guard. He’s explosive and versatile with a nice frame that helps him finish around the basket. On top of that, Montero uses a quick first step to blow by defenders, or pull up from 15 feet.

His outside shot isn’t perfect, but it’s enough of a threat that defenders will have to close out hard on him. Montero can be turnover-prone, but so can most point guards these days. On the defensive end, his motor is as high as anyone I’ve mentioned in the previous weeks.

If I had to make a pick right now, I do think Montero is on the board when the Cavaliers step to the stage for pick 39. With that in mind, though, there is risk involved with such an explosive player with a high ceiling.

With that being said, Montero can get to and finish at the hoop, and can also create shots for himself and his teammates, while still hounding the opposing ball-handler. Montero would be a great pick to lead the Cavs second unit.
