3 free agent wings Cavs could sign with Taxpayer MLE
3 free agent wings Cavs could sign: Danuel House Jr.
In the NBA Bubble, Danuel House allegedly broke curfew rules and was unavailable for a Houston Rockets team that thought it had a chance to make a playoff run. That is not the only blemish on House’s track record, which has led to many teams being skittish of adding him to their team and hurting team chemistry.
A team confident in its culture that doesn’t rely on House for too large of a role could end up with a huge bargain by signing him in free agency, as when he has been on the court House has been a really solid wing. The Utah Jazz added him in the middle of this past season and ended up relying on him more and more down the stretch.
House is a really solid wing defender at 6’6″ and 220 pounds, and that is paired with a reasonable outside shot and generally good basketball IQ. House knows where to be on the basketball court, moving in space to keep his defender out of the play or find an open pocket to shoot. He doesn’t do anything at an elite level, but he is reliable at nearly everything.
None of these players will make-or-break the Cavs’ season, and the best veterans who will take a discount are going to a contending team; the Cavs aren’t yet that. Signing a wing to a bargain deal this offseason will help them take that next step, though, and these three players could all play a role in that journey. They aren’t exciting names, but they are solid players, and that’s what good teams need.
