Cavs player No. 3 with something to prove: Dean Wade

Some that have criticized my takes on Dean Wade and have suggested that Wade shouldn’t be getting so many praises are missing my points on what Wade has already helped this team accomplish. I’ve written that Wade deserves more playing time while I’ve also suggested a player like Lauri Markkanen should have a reduction in his playing time. Some have suggested that I’m trying to substitute Wade in for Markkanen and that simply isn’t true.

While I believe that Wade has earned more playing time, that doesn’t have to mean those are solely Markkanen minutes.

Some of Wade’s criticism by others is that he doesn’t do enough on offense and doesn’t help the team. I’ve tried to counter that opinion with the fact that Wade’s defense is some of the best on the team.

These criticisms of Wade are why he has more to prove next season. My sources on Wade suggest a very deliberate and detailed and cerebral player who has been coached by the Cavs to do and not do certain things on offense in the past.

While some that criticize the former Kansas Stater for his lack of offense, they may not understand that when you’re being instructed to do or not do things on the court, that can have an effect on your game.

I look for Wade to do more on offense next season because that will have more influence on his playing time. Bickerstaff has utilized Wade in such a scattered way in his time in Cleveland, it’s a compliment to Wade that he continues to play and get time on the court.

If all three of these players discussed from Mobley and Allen to Wade can all get better next season, this team will be in the playoffs and contending. Stay tuned!
