3 teams that could trade for Collin Sexton: Detroit Pistons

The ideal landing spot for Sexton would be a team that can play him at the 1 defensively but the 2 on offense; i.e., a team with a bigger point guard or even a dynamic playmaking wing. Enter the Detroit Pistons, who just so happened to draft such a wing in Cade Cunningham last season.

The Pistons ranked 28th in offensive rating last season and will absolutely be looking for an upgrade in their backcourt, where players such as Killian Hayes and Hamidou Diallo offer upside but little shot creation at this point in their careers. Sexton could come in and be a bulldog from day one, with other young players such as Saddiq Bey spacing the court and Isaiah Stewart swooping in behind for offensive layups when Sexton does miss.

A trade could look a few different ways given that the Pistons have enough cap space to take Sexton without sending salary back. In that scenario they would send draft capital, either a protected future pick of their own or even a pick gained by moving forward Jerami Grant in a separate move.

The more bold move for both the Pistons and the Cavs would be to include Grant in such a deal. If Sexton makes something close to Grant’s $21 million in the first year of his new deal with the Pistons, the Cavs could potentially toss another asset into the mix and add a two-way forward to start at the 3 in a newly-realized version of their big lineup.
