The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing a difficult decision this offseason. After three years of developing into a potent offensive scorer and competing in the midst of losing seasons for the Cavs, Collin Sexton is a restricted free agent this summer.

The two teams were unable to come to terms on a contract extension prior to the start of this past season, and Sexton then injured his knee 11 games into the season and missed the remainder. The Cavs have replaced Sexton with another young guard in Darius Garland, and perhaps again by trading for Caris LeVert at the NBA Trade Deadline.

Collin Sexton is a restricted free agent this summer and may be too expensive for the Cavs. Which teams could trade for the potent young guard?

The two sides could absolutely come to terms on a new contract this summer to keep Sexton in the wine and gold, and there is reportedly mutual interest in getting a deal done, but let’s assume for a moment that they instead look to trade him. A few teams could sign Sexton outright in free agency, but the Cavs could always match. Often in these situations, a team executes a sign-and-trade to incentivize the player’s current team not to match. That happened with Lonzo Ball, Devonte Graham and Lauri Markkanen last season, and it means that teams without cap space can still get into the mix.

A number of teams in the league could use a young guard only a season removed from scoring 24.3 points per game. Let’s highlight three such teams who may be looking to upgrade their offensive punch next season.
