Jarrett Allen is having an amazing season for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hopefully, given the injury that has sidelined him for the past few weeks, he still has more to add to the ledger in the postseason. Even if he doesn’t, he had the best season of his career, making his first All-Star Team and leaping up the ranks of the league’s anchormen.

It’s quite the progression for Allen, who was picked in the 20s and generally thought to have the upside of a low-end starting center. In his last season in Brooklyn he had to contend with a broken-down DeAndre Jordan just to start for the Nets. The Houston Rockets didn’t even want him in the James Harden trade, forcing the Nets to find a team willing to take him on; Cleveland pounced for the cost of a low-end first-round pick.

The Cavs have found an elite big man in trading for Jarrett Allen. After making his first All-Star Game, does the center have a shot at an All-Defense Team?

Allen’s impact as a rim protector, and the Cavs’ hot start to the season, created a lot of buzz that Allen could make an All-Defense Team. Now that the season is wrapping up, it’s time for media to vote on all of the major awards, including the league’s best defenders this season.

Will Jarrett Allen make it? It’s a crowded field, as it is every season, and the advancement of defensive metrics gives us more insight into the impact of the league’s very best on that end of the court. Let’s break down his case and whether fans of the Cavs should expect to see their All-Star center bring home the hardware.
