Cleveland Cavaliers Player of the Week for March 28-April 3
By Dan Gilinsky
This past week was surely a grueling one for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who had two sets of back-to-backs, and five games in that period. Cleveland’s blowout loss on Thursday night at the Atlanta Hawks had them in that predicament because of an original game with Atlanta being postponed because of COVID-19-related reasons earlier in the season, as an aside.
Either way, it was a gauntlet to get through with the regular season wrapping up next week, and teams jockeying for postseason positioning.
In relation to how things panned out for the Wine and Gold, they had some extended stretches where they looked really gassed, and not having Jarrett Allen still and Evan Mobley for four of those games didn’t help. On the week, Cleveland went 2-3, with a close win over the Orlando Magic on Monday and a convincing W at the New York Knicks on Saturday.
The lows were very low, though, and the Cavaliers were thumped in the second half versus the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday and lost in again, blowout fashion to the Hawks. Their loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday was a tough one in the closing moments, as they lost 112-108, and Philly took the regular season sweep.
But it wasn’t completely doom and gloom, necessarily, as Cleveland remains in the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, and they should seemingly finish in top 8. That’d mean they’d have two chances, if needed, to make the postseason via the play-in tournament.
That doesn’t have me jumping for joy; that said, the team is reportedly optimistic Allen (finger fracture) should return before the postseason, and Mobley seems set to return soon from an ankle sprain.
So, circling back a bit, looking at this past week, then, who was the clear standout for the Cavs?
On the subject, Darius Garland once again put his talents on display for the Cavs, and was their Player of the Week for March 28-April 3.
Let’s take a look back at Darius Garland‘s past week, to that point.
