Cavs’ Mobley atop Rookie Ladder, but Barnes, Cunningham have new life
As Warriors continue to struggle, where’s Moody and Kuminga?
There are few things in life that I love to hate as much as the Warriors and Stephen Curry. Since going down with an injury to his foot on March 16, the Warriors have lost six of their past seven with their sharpshooter out. To say that the Warriors are freefalling without their superstar is an understatement. They’ve lost to the Washington Wizards and the Magic during this skid.
So without Curry, why haven’t Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody seen more time in Golden State? It’s pretty clear to me that they are two of the Warriors’ best eight players on the roster right now, so it’s a bit confusing why Steve Kerr hasn’t been using his two young studs.
Moody was one of my favorite prospects going into the 2021 NBA Draft. He played in an open system at Arkansas, was a knockdown shooter, and defensively he was far better than a lot of other prospects. Kuminga’s athleticism is scary sometimes; that’s how good he is. He needs to refine and polish his back-to-the-basket game, but these two could be a tough duo in the future. Which makes it very puzzling they haven’t been given more time with Curry out.
Steve Kerr has to know that Curry can’t play forever, neither can Draymond Green or Klay Thompson. Even though their roster has some great young prospects on it, the Warriors seem to be hesitant to give them more of a shot.
Overall, what a basketball season it has been. Before the season if you had told me the Cavaliers would be in the position they are now, I’d be shocked. With only a couple of weeks of regular season games yet to be played, it’s time for these young guys to make their mark. The leader of the pack is likely out injured for a bit to come here, so can Barnes or Cunningham, or even Green capture the throne from under Mobley’s nose?
It should be an exciting week to say the least.
