Goodwin has played pretty well generally; the Cavs just seem to be favoring Rondo from here

Rondo was not active in Cleveland’s loss at the Philadelphia 76ers, but even in a game at the Pacers when Garland was out because of lower back soreness (which he missed games the previous week due to), Goodwin had a DNP. He had a DNP at the Atlanta Hawks in a loss last Tuesday also, and appeared in nearly just five minutes at Philadelphia and versus the San Antonio Spurs in a win.

Now, Goodwin has definitely given the Cavaliers some nice play either off the bench or in spot starts, and him being signed to a two-way after an initial 10-day hardship signing was warranted.

He had 6.3 points and 3.3 assists (to 1.0 turnovers) in 16.5 minutes per outing in 10 appearances from Jan. 12-Feb.4; he had two DNPs over that span, but has been a viable reserve contributor, more often than not.

That said, with the acquisition of Caris LeVert too, Goodwin’s meaningful minutes are going to be numbered it seems.

I could foresee Cleveland converting Goodwin’s spot to a regular roster spot with Pangos out, though, for depth, perhaps for injury insurance and with Rondo turning 36 on Tuesday. Rondo did miss a stretch of games after he was acquired initially due to a hamstring injury, to that point.

But overall, it’s evident that Cleveland seems to be favoring Rondo over Goodwin, despite Goodwin looking more viable on a number of occasions.

Rondo’s postseason experience, defensive feel, more sturdy build and veteran presence are likely what the Cavs will be going with over the more slender Goodwin from here, whether or not Goodwin’s spot eventually is converted.
