3 G-League standouts the Cavs could sign: Craig Randall II

Many of the players in the G League were once on the NBA radar, either as second-round draft picks, intriguing unrafted options or even highly-drafted busts still trying to hang around the league. A few players, however, are just career G Leaguers, not really working for an NBA job but for one reason or another (recently, the pandemic) choosing to stay close to home rather than play overseas.

Craig Randall II is one such player, a 6’4″ guard who couldn’t hang at Memphis and ended his college career with UT Martin. He went undrafted in 2020 and has been in the G League since last fall. Taking full advantage of his opportunity, Randall has played 32 games this season and absolutely balled out, averaging 25.8 points per game (third in the league) to go with 5.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.3 steals.

Randall has not been the picture of efficiency, hitting only 44.2 percent of his shots, but his sheer ability to score might mean a future as a microwave scorer off the bench. With Collin Sexton out for the season and Caris LeVert likely to get more and more run with the starters, perhaps the Cavs give Randall a look with a 10-day contract. It would be a nice financial boon for Randall who has never played in an NBA game. If he proves able to score in bunches (although in a smaller role, obviously) in the big league, perhaps he is worth a longer look.
