#3: An offensive boost

I think Isaac Okoro is a very talented young player for the team, but he hasn’t shown yet that he can be relied on to score baskets and give the Cavs 10-15 points regularly as a starter on the team. While his defense is probably some of the best on the team, the squad needs a spark on offense, especially from the perimeter.

Darius Garland, the Cavs point guard, can only do so much from inside and driving down the lane with teardrop shots or on the outside launching three-point looks.

Inserting LeVert can give the team a reliable offensive threat who can hit that outside shot or go mid-range and knock down those, sometimes needed 15-foot shots, from around the lane and baseline. He’s also good at being aggressive when needed and driving to the basket or taking his opponent down the lane and scoring turnaround shots as he did in the clutch in the closing minutes of the win against the Pacers a couple of weeks ago, when he hit three of those types of looks.

LeVert’s 18 points a game average is double that of Okoro’s nine points at this point in the season. The Cavs will need that extra nine points as the season draws to a close. Okoro is not yet ready to hit back-to-back turnaround shots to close a game like LeVert is today.

Knowing they can rely on a veteran in the clutch can also give the other younger starters like big man Evan Mobley and their point guard Garland a reliable outlet in those close games that are coming down to the wire.
